Participating in community service is a wonderful way for your child to experience the joy of giving. Here are some reasons why it’s so important for students to get out there and make the world a better place.

    1. They’ll Form Great Friendships

Participating in community service events is an amazing way for your child to form new friendships. Not only that, the friendships they form will be with other like-minded individuals who are also being raised with great strength of character. Forming friends through community service activities will increase the likelihood that you will continue the gift of giving in the future, beyond schooling years.

    2. They Will Be More Open-Minded At Home

The act of giving is all about thinking of others before thinking of yourself, and this can start at home. Helping around the house, offering to help with dinner, checking in on the neighbours and rolling their bins in are all great ways to begin thinking of others. Not only will they be more open-minded, but they also become less self-centred.

    3. It May Help Them Land A Job

Many employers find a lot of value in seeing community service on a resume. It demonstrates that the candidate often  thinks of others. This is a trait that helps employers recognise your son or daughter as selfless and geared toward helping others first rather than themselves – a trait beneficial in any role and in any team. Community service volunteers are great examples of team players.

Community service participation is not only important for your child’s character, it’s also important for you as a parent. As a parent you lead the way in your child’s formation, and they will notice if you participate in community service activities, they will also notice if you don’t, and they will follow your example.
